The end of the month is here, it is time for another instalment in the spontaneously developed collection series. Similarly to the previously published posts on the Chinese, English, Welsh, Scottish, Hungarian, and Slovenian settlement signs, this is a good 'virtual place' for you to come to find some of our photos of settlement signs placed nicely in collections. This "episode" is now focusing on my favourite sign photos of Austria, or more precisely the Republik Österreich, which is a relatively small, landlocked country in the middle part of Central Europe with the capital city of Wien (Vienna). Since I was born only a few miles away from the Austro-Hungarian boundary, I spent relatively a lot of time cycling in Burgenland, which means I have many sign photos from the Eastern part of the country.
In Austria, all settlements have signs, which are standardised white with a blue edge. The name of the settlement is written in black letters. Similarly to the southern neighbour Slovenia, there are many small settlements in the country, which makes it possible for a collector to find many random ones in a relatively small area.
In this post, I will include "settlement signs" as a selection boundary signs, which are normally placed at the settlement administrative limit. If you want to see the full album, then click here, if you want to see my selection, scroll down.
